I fell in love with the written word at just three years old, when my mother taught me to read. The library became my very favorite place in the world, and I spent many summer days curled up on a blanket in a sunny corner of the yard with my favorite characters. It was no surprise when I graduated summa cum laude from University of Baltimore with a degree in English: Professional Writing and Communications.

I began my official writing career with an internship in the public relations department of Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore, then by joining the Family Voice magazine staff of Concerned Women for America, a women’s public policy organization in Washington, D.C. When I came home to raise and homeschool my children, I grew my freelance business to include local businesses, magazines, and newspapers.

I launched into teaching literature and writing more than fifteen years ago, working within the local homeschool co-op network, with tutoring students, through private classes I offer in my county, and in partnership with Harford Community College. I’ve taught children from elementary through high school in a variety of language arts areas: poetry, literature, literary analysis, creative writing, five paragraph essay, IEW, and individual studies. Many of my students have gone on to great success in English classes in college, including honors classes. What makes me most proud is that most of them have learned to love words, too.

In my free time, I’m happy to be outside on the deck playing cards with my husband, floating in the pool with my teens and my latest book club pick, or tugging my kayak down to the water for some sun and exercise.
