Creative Writing

Tutor:  Deb Lembach

Prerequisite: None

Description:  Perfect for reluctant writers through blossoming creatives, this second-semester class brings fun and freedom to Language Arts. Favoring creativity and personal expression over grammar and mechanics, this class creates a safe space for students to explore and imitate various genres of literature, create their own original individual pieces of writing, and contribute to group pieces.

Students respond to weekly journal prompts, learn various writing techniques and genres, build a portfolio of original pieces, and present a project at the end of the semester. Students enjoy the weekly opportunity to present their work in workshop format and through online class venues for positive feedback.

This class can be used toward English or elective credits for high school graduation.

Note: The first-semester class Secrets of Great Communicators is the perfect complement to this class because students gain confidence in presenting their ideas and establish trust in one another through positive feedback which makes sharing their work easy and rewarding.
