SAT Prep

This is a one-semester course for preparing students to take the SAT. Using the textbook and other resources, students will complete weekly assignments in order to hone their skills, gain practice in taking the test, and grow in their confidence regarding the SAT.

During weeks 1 – 7, Mrs. Clement will help students prepare for the Critical Reading and Writing sections of the SAT. There will be a major focus on mastering new words as a sophisticated vocabulary is essential to success on the Critical Reading parts of the test. Students will practice the various types of passage based reading questions on the SAT and review grammar to prepare for the Improving Sentences, Identifying Sentence Errors, and Improving Paragraphs questions in the Writing sections. Finally, students will practice essay writing.

In weeks 8 – 14, Mrs. Cade will go over strategies for taking the Math sections of the SAT, as well as reviewing concepts from Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Probability, and Data Analysis.

In the final class, students will take a small part of an actual SAT test.
